Washington Academy welcomes pop up community library
Local school takes in town library staff during refurbishment
Washington Academy, part of Consilium Academies, are hosting a pop-up community library on behalf of Washington Library which will open on the 10th of January.
The school will host staff and books from the town’s library as it undergoes a six-month refurbishment. The pop-up library will be open to the public at times when students are not in school and it will also accommodate scheduled visits from local primary schools and care homes. Members of the public can come along between 3pm and 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
The Washington Library staff are going to spend some time with the school’s Literacy Leaders in the New year and provide them with some librarian training. Classes at the school will also be visiting the library and having sessions on how to use and access the pop-up service.
Victoria Carter, Headteacher at Washington Academy said:
“It’s been lovely to welcome the Washington Library staff into the school while setting up the pop-up community library. Nobody wanted the town to lose access to such an important resource for six months and we hope members of the public enjoy visiting the school to pick out their next ‘must read’ during the refurbishment.”
