This term, five students at Washington Academy, part of Consilium Academies, won a prestigious regional robotics challenge and the opportunity to compete at a national robotics championship later this year. 

 

On Wednesday 25 January, Year 10 Washington students competed in the VEX IQ Slapshot Northeast regional competition, where the group were challenged to design and build a robot that can compete in a game, either through being manually controlled or completing the task independently.

 

The students used their oracy skills to explain and justify their design to a panel of judges as part of the competition. The students were crowned with the Champions of Teamwork Award and finished second in the robot skills challenge.

 

The students will now represent Washington Academy at the VEX IQ National

“The competition was difficult, and we competed against some fantastic teams. But our team spirit and determination secured us the win.”

“We spent a lot of time and effort designing and building our robot which I’m so glad was all worth it in the end. I can’t wait to do it all over again.”
