Part-time work is a great way to build your CV, gain valuable experience and earn some money.
There are strict rules about the hours young people can work and the types of work they can do. These rules exist to protect them and stop employers asking them to do too much. Sunderland Council are responsible for enforcing the Child Employment laws within our area. The employer of any school-age child is required to apply for a work permit before the child starts work. For the most recent rules, Click here Our Careers Lead Kelly Oakland, is available throughout the year to support pupils in all year groups. All students will have an individual guidance meeting in year 10 or 11 and all pupils in year 9 will be supported in making informed choices about their GCSE preferences.

What can you do at home?
It is never too early to start talking about future choices with your child, and we are here to help. If you haven’t downloaded the SIMS Parent App, please do so ASAP. We have dedicated careers pages where we regularly post careers information relevant to your child. We have also recently started an Instagram page which we update regularly.
